Course Details

The Certificate III in Individual Support equips learners with the essential skills and knowledge required to support individuals in aged care and disability settings. This course emphasises person-centred care, assisting clients with daily living activities, and enhancing their independence and overall wellbeing. Graduates are prepared for roles such as Aged Care Worker or Disability Support Worker, delivering compassionate and professional support across residential, community, and home-based care environments.

FACE TO FACE DELIVERY:

Students are required to complete 20 hours per week of on-campus attendance, along with mandatory professional placement sessions.

Professional Experience Placement (PEP) is a mandatory component of selected units within this qualification. IHNA ensures guaranteed placement opportunities for all students enrolled in the Certificate III in Individual Support. Students will commence their 120 hours of professional placement after successfully completing all required theory and simulation-based assessments (SBA).

During the placement period, students apply their acquired knowledge and practical skills in real workplace settings to demonstrate competency across the relevant units. Each student is paired with a designated workplace buddy and works under the supervision of an experienced workplace supervisor.

An IHNA trainer and assessor will regularly monitor and support student progress throughout the placement. While placements are arranged by IHNA, students may also organise their own placement, subject to approval and coordination with the course coordinator.

There are no formal entry requirements for this course.

IHNA Admission Requirements

  • Completion of Australian Year 12 or an equivalent qualification.

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age at the commencement of the course.

  • Successful completion of the Language, Literacy, and Numeracy (LLN) assessment at ACSF Level 3.

All students are required to complete IHNA’s LLND test to ensure their readiness for the course and are encouraged to have basic computer skills to enhance their learning experience.

Professional Experience Placement (PEP) Requirements
  • Satisfactory National Police Clearance (NCC) or Australian Federal Police (AFP) Clearance certificate.
  • Required immunisations.
  • Working with Children Check (WWCC).
  • Valid NDIS Worker Screening Check.

IHNA’s assessment processes are designed to align with training package requirements, assessment principles, and rules of evidence. All assessment tools are reviewed by subject matter experts to ensure accuracy and relevance. Qualified assessors evaluate student evidence to make fair and consistent competency judgments. The assessment system is tailored to meet industry expectations, supports diverse learner needs, and provides opportunities for reassessment where required.

The course includes three assessment methods:

  • Theory Assessment (TA)
  • Simulation-based Assessment (SBA)
  • Professional Experience Placement (PEP)

Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
Students may apply for Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) in accordance with IHNA’s established policies and procedures. RPL assessments are based on evidence of a learner’s existing skills, knowledge, and experience gained through formal, non-formal, or informal learning. IHNA evaluates this evidence using its approved assessment framework to ensure decisions are fair, consistent, and aligned with training standards, while maintaining the integrity and quality of the qualification.

Credit Transfer (CT)
IHNA offers Credit Transfer for units of competency that have been successfully completed at IHNA or other registered training organisations (RTOs), provided they are deemed equivalent to the units within the current qualification. Students are informed about their eligibility to apply for Credit Transfer at various stages, including during the pre-training review, enrolment process, and orientation program.

  2. Interview: Once you’ve met IHNA’s eligibility criteria you will be contacted for an interview with an admissions consultant
  3. Offer Letter: If you’re successful with the interview you will be offered a place for the course as per the availability of each intake.
  4. Enrolment Fee: After signing the offer acceptance an invoice will be issued for the course.
  5. Confirmation of Admission: We will issue a confirmation of admission once the enrolment fee has been received.
