Please note that this course does not directly lead to registration as a nurse in Australia. To become a Registered Nurse in Australia, candidates must meet the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) requirements, including approved English language proficiency and successful completion of both the NCLEX and OSCE examinations.

Program Delivery Structure

Online Delivery – N9001 & NCLEX-RN Preparation
To provide flexibility and accessibility, IHM offers the N9001 unit along with comprehensive NCLEX-RN examination preparation through an online learning format. This allows students to study remotely while developing the essential knowledge and competencies required to successfully complete the NCLEX-RN examination and gain a strong understanding of Australian nursing practice.

The online component is designed to give students sufficient time to prepare for the NCLEX-RN, increasing their likelihood of meeting the requirements for nursing registration in Australia.


On-Campus Delivery – N8001 & N8002

The remaining units, N8001 and N8002, are delivered on campus once students arrive in Australia on a valid visitor visa. These units include intensive face-to-face learning combined with eight weeks of OSCE preparation conducted at IHM’s state-of-the-art nursing simulation laboratories.

This on-campus component enables students to apply theoretical knowledge in a practical setting, gain hands-on clinical experience, and develop confidence in preparation for the OSCE examination conducted at the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre.


Practical Learning Experience

This blended delivery model ensures students benefit from both flexible online learning and immersive, practical training. It provides valuable exposure to the Australian healthcare environment while fostering meaningful interaction with educators, peers, and healthcare professionals.

Step 1: Application and Initial Payment
Submit your application for the GCAN–ANP (RN Bridging Program) and pay the initial deposit of AUD 5,000. This allows you to commence the AHPRA application process, begin NCLEX preparation, and access the online course components.


Step 2: Online Study and NCLEX Preparation
Begin the GCAN–ANP online coursework alongside structured preparation for the NCLEX-RN examination. This stage allows you to build the required knowledge and clinical understanding while awaiting progress in your AHPRA application.


Step 3: NCLEX Examination
Sit for the NCLEX-RN examination once adequately prepared. Successful completion is a key requirement for progressing toward registration in Australia.


Step 4: Completion of Online Units
Upon passing the NCLEX, students must complete all remaining online units within the GCAN–ANP program.


Step 5: Travel to Australia
After receiving confirmation from AHPRA to undertake the OSCE, and upon payment of the remaining AUD 7,000 in course fees, students may travel to Australia on a Visitor Visa or Student Visa.


Step 6: On-Campus Study and OSCE Preparation
Students will complete on-campus training, including OSCE preparation, at IHM’s facilities. This stage provides hands-on clinical practice and structured preparation for the OSCE examination.


Step 7: AHPRA Registration
Upon successfully passing the OSCE and meeting all regulatory requirements, candidates become eligible for AHPRA registration as a Registered Nurse.


Step 8: Future Pathways
Graduates may choose to:

  • Continue their studies through the Master of Nursing program, with eligibility for credit transfer, or

  • Explore permanent residency pathways in Australia, subject to immigration requirements.

Entry Requirements – Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing (RN Bridging Program)

To be eligible for admission into the Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing – Australian Nursing Practice, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Hold a Bachelor of Nursing or an equivalent postgraduate qualification in nursing

  • Be a registered nurse with AHPRA, or hold current registration with the nursing regulatory authority in their country of origin or residence

  • Have successfully completed the NCLEX-RN examination

  • Meet the English language proficiency requirements, as outlined below

English Language Proficiency Requirements

Applicants must demonstrate English language proficiency by meeting one of the following:

  • IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 7.0, with no band less than 7.0 in Listening, Reading, and Speaking, and 6.5 in Writing, or

  • An equivalent score in an accepted English language test (such as PTE or OET)

All applicants must meet the English language requirements to be eligible for admission into the program.

The GCAN-ANP is specifically designed to support overseas-qualified nurses in meeting the requirements of the Outcomes-Based Assessment (OBA) pathway, including preparation for the NCLEX-RN and Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE). Through a combination of online learning, targeted exam preparation, and practical training, students are equipped to successfully navigate the registration process.

Course Overview

This program includes eight weeks of OSCE preparation, specifically designed to prepare candidates for the Outcomes-Based Assessment (OBA) required for nursing registration in Australia. On-Campus Mode of Delivery

Pre-Course Inclusions

As part of the on-campus learning experience, students receive access to a range of preparatory and support services designed to enhance their success throughout the program:

  • NCLEX Test Preparation:
    Full access to IHM’s NCLEX preparation program is provided at no additional cost, supporting students in building the knowledge and skills required to successfully pass the examination.

  • IELTS/PTE Preparation Support:
    Through a partnership with E2 English, students receive specialised preparation support to meet the English language proficiency requirements set by AHPRA.

  • Optional Certificate III Program:
    Students may enrol in a Certificate III in Individual Support at a 50% discounted fee, offered by IHNA. This enables students to gain practical experience and work part-time as an Assistant in Nursing (AIN) or carer while studying the Bridging Program in Australia.

  • AHPRA Application Support:
    Dedicated assistance is available through MWT Consultancy to support students throughout the AHPRA registration process. (Additional service fees may apply.)

FEE-HELP is an Australian Government loan scheme designed to assist eligible fee-paying students in covering the cost of their higher education. It operates similarly to HECS-HELP but applies specifically to students enrolled in fee-paying undergraduate, postgraduate, or vocational education and training (VET) courses at approved institutions.

Through FEE-HELP, eligible students can defer all or part of their tuition fees by accessing a government loan. Repayment is only required once the student’s income reaches the minimum repayment threshold, making higher education more accessible and financially manageable.

Self Check

If you are an internationally qualified nurse or midwife seeking registration in Australia, you must first complete the Self-Check process before submitting a formal application. The Self-Check is an online assessment where you provide details of your qualifications and professional background.

Based on the information submitted, you will be placed into one of the following three assessment streams:

  • Stream A: For IQNMs whose qualifications are considered substantially equivalent or based on similar competencies to an approved Australian qualification.

  • Stream B: For IQNMs whose qualifications are relevant to the profession but are not substantially equivalent or based on comparable competencies.

  • Stream C: For IQNMs whose qualifications are not considered equivalent or relevant to an approved Australian qualification.

There is no fee to complete the Self-Check process.

IQNMs who do not meet the required criteria under Section 53 of the National Law, or whose qualifications are deemed insufficient, will be required to undertake further study or upgrade their qualifications in Australia before becoming eligible to apply for registration.

IQNM Assessment Process

  • Applicants who successfully complete the Self-Check are required to proceed to the IQNM Assessment Process.

    As part of this process, candidates must pay a non-refundable assessment fee of AUD 640. This fee contributes to the costs incurred by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for reviewing submitted documentation and facilitating the required assessment and orientation process.

    The assessment process may take up to six weeks to be completed.

Orientation : Part A

  • 90 mins of video orientation and quiz based on that video.

Portfolio Stage

  • At this stage you will have to upload all the attested documents as required.

NCLEX-RN (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • Multiple choice questions exam, the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) is an online test taken through Pearson VUE test centres in most countries.

OSCE

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a comprehensive clinical assessment designed to evaluate whether candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional competence expected of a graduate nurse from an NMBA-approved program.

The OSCE simulates real clinical environments and patient scenarios commonly encountered by Registered Nurses. Candidates are assessed on their ability to safely and effectively assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while applying evidence-based practice and professional judgement.

The OSCE examination fee is AUD $4,000. This fee replaces previous bridging program costs and contributes to the administration, delivery, and quality assurance of the assessment. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) are fully funded through these fees, which support the evaluation of internationally qualified nurses seeking registration in Australia.

Orientation : Part B

This e- learning module must be completed within the first 6 months of becoming a registered nurse in Australia.
