Successfully completing the NCLEX-RN examination opens the door to a wide range of global nursing opportunities. At IHM Australia, we provide comprehensive guidance and flexible pathways to support your professional goals—whether you aim to practise in Australia or pursue international nursing opportunities.

Option 1: Australian Nursing Registration

If your goal is to practise as a Registered Nurse in Australia, IHM offers a clear and structured pathway to support your journey. Our two-week OSCE (Objective Structured Clinical Examination) preparation program is designed to help you develop the clinical competence and confidence required to succeed in the assessment.

Additionally, our Graduate Certificate in Advanced Nursing incorporates dedicated OSCE preparation, ensuring you are well equipped to meet the standards set by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).

Option 2: Global Nursing Pathways

Your NCLEX-RN qualification also opens doors to nursing registration in other countries, including the United States and Canada. IHM provides guidance and resources to help you understand the regulatory requirements and transition smoothly into international nursing roles. Our support ensures you are well prepared to meet the expectations of nursing authorities across multiple jurisdictions.

OSCE Assessment and Continued Support

Following successful completion of the NCLEX-RN, eligible candidates will be invited by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) to undertake the OSCE at the Adelaide Health Simulation Centre. To support your success, we strongly recommend continued preparation through our structured OSCE training programs.

Face-to-Face OSCE Preparation

IHM offers in-person OSCE preparation classes at our Melbourne campus. These sessions provide hands-on practice, expert guidance, and realistic simulation experiences to help you build confidence and competence ahead of the examination.

Advanced Study Opportunities

As part of our commitment to professional development, IHM also offers pathways into advanced qualifications. We are proud to be among the few institutions in Australia providing both OSCE preparation programs and a Master of Nursing, empowering graduates to advance their careers and leadership potential within the healthcare sector.

The Nursing Registration process comprises of 7 steps:

Step 1 – Self Check

Self-Check Process for Internationally Qualified Nurses and Midwives (IQNMs)

If you are an internationally qualified nurse or midwife (IQNM) seeking registration in Australia, you must first complete the Self-check process before submitting an application for registration. The Self-check is an online assessment where you provide details of your qualifications and professional background.

Based on the information submitted, you will be placed into one of the following three assessment streams:

  • Stream A – For IQNMs whose qualifications are considered substantially equivalent or based on similar competencies to an approved Australian qualification.

  • Stream B – For IQNMs whose qualifications are relevant to the profession but are not substantially equivalent or based on comparable competencies.

  • Stream C – For IQNMs whose qualifications are not considered relevant or equivalent to an approved qualification.

There is no fee to complete the Self-check process.

IQNMs who do not meet the required criteria under Section 53 of the National Law, or whose qualifications are deemed insufficient, will be required to undertake further education or training in Australia before becoming eligible to apply for registration.

Applicants who successfully complete the Self-check are required to proceed to the IQNM assessment process.

As part of this process, candidates must pay a non-refundable assessment fee of AUD $410. This fee contributes toward the costs incurred by the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) for reviewing submitted documentation and facilitating the required orientation for internationally qualified nurses and midwives.

90 mins of video orientation and quiz based on that video.

At this stage you will have to upload all the attested documents as required.

The NCLEX-RN (National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses) is a computer-based multiple-choice examination administered through authorised Pearson VUE test centres worldwide.

For Registered Nurses, the examination fee is USD $200, with an additional international scheduling fee of USD $150, bringing the total cost to USD $350 (approximately AUD $504).

This examination is a key requirement for nursing registration in several countries and assesses the knowledge, skills, and clinical judgment necessary for safe and effective nursing practice.

The Objective Structured Clinical Examination (OSCE) is a comprehensive clinical assessment designed to evaluate whether candidates demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and professional competence expected of a graduate nurse or midwife from an NMBA-approved Australian program.

The examination simulates real clinical environments and patient scenarios that Registered Nurses are likely to encounter in practice. Candidates are assessed on their ability to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care while applying evidence-based practice and demonstrating safe, effective clinical skills.

The OSCE examination fee is AUD $4,000. This fee replaces previous bridging program costs and contributes toward the administration, delivery, and quality assurance of the assessment. The Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) are fully funded through these fees, which support the assessment and regulation of internationally qualified nurses seeking registration in Australia.

Orientation Part B refers to the second stage of the mandatory orientation process for internationally qualified nurses and midwives (IQNMs). This component is completed after registration and builds upon the initial Orientation Part A, which is undertaken prior to registration.

Orientation Part B provides in-depth learning focused on the Australian healthcare system, professional standards, and scope of practice relevant to the nurse or midwife’s specific role. It ensures that newly registered practitioners are well prepared to practise safely, competently, and in accordance with Australian regulatory and professional expectations.
